Newport Bike Hire has been associated with the wholefoods shop since 2004 providing a service that complements the shop and its products. Although the bikes are not held on the premises, bookings are made through the shop and the bikes are then made available in less than half an hour.
Newport Bike Hire has the widest range of quality Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes (mostly Giant make)for all ages in Pembrokeshire. Newport is the perfect location to explore the beautiful hills, valleys and coastal scenery of North Pembrokeshire. In addition, we provide child seats, “tag-alongs”, an electric asssist “Hillbuster” bike for those who are a bit apprehensive about the terrain and we have a tandem cycle for “determined” couples. Helmets and maps are provided free and a delivery, collection and recovery service (subject to distance) is also provided. Bookings can be made for half day, full day and multiple days and group discounts can be arranged, subject to availability. Booking in advance is recommended during school holidays.
Newport Bike Hire is open all year round. There are many times in the winter off-season when the conditions are excellent for cycling. As bookings are light during this period, reduced rates ans/or extended ride times can be taken to compensate for any unforseen deterioration in weather conditions.
Maps & Cycling Guide Books: The outdoor pursuits section of the Wholefoods of Newport Bookshop has a very extensive range of cycling books and maps.
At Newport Bike Hire, we are also actively involved in providing and organising local cycling activities. These include:
- Cycle Treks including a Pre-History Trek and the escorted "Golden Trail Trek" trek for small parties along the Presili Trail (a strenuous 4-6 hour endevour - best in summer).
- CycleQuest - a cycle orienteering activity unique to Newport Bike Hire. It involves locating and cycling to designated check points (both off-road and on-road), from a supplied map. Points are allocated & time limits apply to those choosing one of the three competitive options. You can then compare your score with previous participants.
- Newport Bay Spring Festival cycling events which will include the new Preseli-Teifi CycloSportif (31-78 miles) plus junior and adult Mountain bike races. These take place on the 4 & 5th of May, 2008.
- Pembrokeshire Tour: We can supply well tested route guides of North Pembrokeshire and a very challenging 200 kilometer county circuit taking in the best of coast and countryside.
Route 82: Please note that the National Cycle Network Route 82 links Fishguard and Newport via the Gwaun Valley and then continues to St. Dogmaels.
